Fourth ‘More than Tennis’ meeting, for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The fourth edition of the biannual ‘More than Tennis’ event was held from 16th – 18th September. Promoted by the Rafa Nadal Foundation and Special Olympics Spain, the event saw participation from 80 athletes, 65 of whom were tennis players with intellectual disabilities and had travelled from cities across Spain to compete at the facilities of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar in Manacor.
“I feel privileged to be here; the atmosphere, the people you meet…it’s all amazing,” said Elena, one of the participants from Seville. In addition to the matches between Special Olympics athletes, the event included a unified sport discipline, in which players with and without disabilities play together in order to promote inclusion in society, sharing values and experiences and fostering acceptance, equality and socialisation.
The ‘More Than Tennis’ project has been carried out in by the Rafa Nadal Foundation in cooperation with Special Olympics Spain since 2010.
