Second edition of ‘Beyond Sport’ day

The Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre in Palma hosted the ‘Beyond Sport’ day on 10th July, an initiative carried out in cooperation with Telefónica, through its Podium program. Olympic sport and its values were on display throughout the day, thanks to the four athletes in attendance – three of whom were Olympians, and one Olympic promise thanks to a scholarship from the program.

Around 60 of the socially disadvantaged youngsters that take part in the Summer School of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre had the opportunity to learn about the experience of the four young sports stars: Mihaela Siobani (bronze medallist in handball at London 2012), Jennifer Miranda (9 times Spanish boxing champion and 9th in the world in South Korea 2015), Joan Lino (long jump bronze medallist at Athens 2004), and Ramón Ruiz (promising taekwondo talent hoping for Olympic success).

This second edition of the day began with a talk focusing on sporting values and their importance – both in sport and in day-to-day life – and included aspects such as hard work, determination, consistency, and camaraderie. After that it was time to put into practice three of the present sporting disciplines: handball, long jump and taekwondo. The Podium athletes were exceptional mentors, showing the children of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centre the techniques and peculiarities of each of the sports.
