Joining forces for vulnerable children along with Laureus Sport for Good

The Rafa Nadal Foundation and Laureus Sport for Good have signed a collaboration agreement with the objective of pulling together for the benefit of vulnerable children and young. Specifically, the organization founded by Nelson Mandela will cooperate with the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Palma, by funding part of the project and providing its wide experience in the area of child protection and use of sport as a tool to transform the lives of children and young all around the world.
“The fact that an entity such as Laureus Sport for Good, which has vast experience and high standing on this area internationally, has committed to collaborate with the Rafa Nadal Foundation is excellent news, for us as an organization as well as for hundreds of children and families who will benefit from it”, explains Maria Francisca Perelló, director of the Rafa Nadal Foundation.
In the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Palma, which was created in 2014, we are carrying out our project of reference, through which we annually assist more than 250 children and their families. It consists of a supplementary program to the academic studies, together with different activities related to various aspects such as socio-educational, sports and psychotherapeutic.
Laureus Sport for Good was inspired by the words of its Founding Patron, Nelson Mandela, who said at the first ever Laureus Awards in 2000, “Sport has the power to change the world.” Laureus Sport for Good uses the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage, proving that sport can change the world.
Currently supporting more than 200 programmes in over 40 countries, Laureus Sport for Good partners with organisations that use sport to contribute to social focus areas aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals; Health, Education, Women and Girls, Employability, Inclusive Society and Peaceful Society.
“Leaders such as Rafa Nadal are a vital part of Laureus Sport for Good’s ongoing quest to use sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. This partnership with the Rafa Nadal Foundation is a fantastic opportunity to combine our knowledge and expertise for the benefit of vulnerable young people. Collaboration between Sport for Development organisations is crucial to the sector’s growth, and we are looking forward to combining our international experience with the expertise of the Rafa Nadal Foundation through this exciting partnership”, says Boris Becker, Laureus Academy Member.
