Rafa Nadal will collaborate with the Food Bank of Mallorca through his organization and academy
Tennis player Rafa Nadal, who has been recently appointed as honorary ambassador of the Food Bank of Mallorca, will collaborate with this entity through his organization and academy, with the desire to help many families and people in vulnerable situations meet such a basic need as food is.
Rafa Nadal declared: “Together with my foundation and my academy, we will join the work of the Food Bank. We understand that the effort that this organization is making is always important, and it’s even more essential today, given the situation we are living in, which is known to all”.
Due to the health, social and economic crisis we are going through, caused by the pandemic, there are more than 25,000 people in Mallorca who are receiving food products from the Food Bank, which is 24% higher than at the beginning of the year.
On one hand, the Rafa Nadal Foundation will donate essential goods worth 3,000 kg of food. “The Food Bank of Mallorca has been doing amazing work for many years, which is now more necessary than ever. It is very satisfying for us to participate in making possible that people around us can count on this food aid”, explains María Francisca Perelló, director of the Rafa Nadal Foundation.
The Foundation, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, also contributes to promoting a healthier diet for children and young within the context of its projects. An example is the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Palma, located in La Soledat district, where 250 vulnerable children are assisted regarding different areas such as sports, educational, and psychotherapeutic, besides the nutritional aid.
In parallel, the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar is planning to carry out several food drives at different times during the year, promoting at the same time the volunteer work as part of its training and educational program.
“It is an honor for the Food Bank of Mallorca that Rafa Nadal accepted to be our honorary ambassador, the first one in these 25 years. We really appreciate his great human quality, which is even greater in these times we have to live in”, says Raimundo de Montis, president of the organization.
The Food Bank of Mallorca is a non-profit organization that has been active since 1995 with the aim of helping residents in Mallorca who, for some reason or another, need to be supported to meet their most basic need: eating.
