On Sunday, 2nd October 2011, the Rafa Nadal Foundation received an economic contribution in recognition of its solidarity task. The centre court of the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championship was the scenario chosen for Brad Drewett, CEO of the Association of Tennis Professionals, to personally hand over a cheque for 10,000 Euros to Rafa Nadal, our founding Patron.
Rafa Nadal thanked the support for this enterprise and assured that for him, as well as, in particular, for his Foundation, this help is a very positive move that will allow projects to advance at a greater pace and to continue promotions and actions that contribute towards improving the lifestyle of socially deprived children and young people.
This contribution comes from the ATP ACES For Charity programme created by the ATP at the beginning of 2011, for the purpose of establishing recognition and making awards to both players and tournaments involved in charitable causes throughout the world. In this first edition a total of 12 awards were presented, to support projects with charitable ends.
Amongst the award-winners this year, we can also find the David Nalbandian Foundation, for its work in favour of disabled people in Argentina, the Croat Ivan Ljubicic, as ambassador of the Special Olympics Monaco, the Tommy Robredo Foundation, which encourages tennis amongst disabled persons or the China Open Tournament for its charitable activities.
