The Gala Dinner was held at the Oval Hall at MNAC in Barcelona and brought "Together for Integration", event to a close. The Gala was organised by Fundació Rafa Nadal and Invest for children, in order to raise funds to promote the social integration of children, teenagers and people who suffer intellectual disabilities.
The gala, led by the actor and presenter Santi Millán, was attended by Rafa Nadal as well as the presidents of both foundations Ana María Parera and Carlo Umberto Bonomi.
Among more than 300 guests, we can highlight the attendance of Nastassja Kinski and Paz Vega, who went with his husband Orson Salazar, and the actor Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), who wanted to take part in this solidarity initiative. The wife of the President of the Government of Catalonia Helena Rakosnik also wanted to be one of the guests, as well as the fourth Deputy Mayor Maite Fandos.
Furthermore, Richard Mille, who is the president and director of his watch making brand, didn’t want to miss the opportunity of attending, as well as the General Director of KIA Motors Iberia, Raoul Picello; Antonio Núñez de Tovar, resources and media director of MAPFRE and the Deputy President of United Post Lotteries, Frank Leeman, among other representatives of the sponsoring companies.
It was also possible to see some sports figures such as the captain of the Spanish team who won the last Davis Cup in Sevilla, Albert Costa; tennis players such as Marc López and Tomeu Salvà, Carlos Costa and his wife Itziar Oliden; the Dutch tennis player Richard Krajicek, who won Wimbledon in 1996; Emilio Sánchez Vicario and his wife Simona Bronzetti; or the rider Sete Gibernau.
In order to raise as many funds as possible, some prizes were drawn during the evening, such as a helmet signed by Valentino Rossi, a Ducati Monster 696, a racket signed by Rafa Nadal, 2 exclusive tickets to attend the final at Wimbledon Tournament or a private flight to Paris for 6 people.
Before the final gala, there was a tennis tournament for the sponsoring companies at the facilities of Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899. The winners were the ones representing Banesto, Felipe Martín and Raul Carmona. They have had the honour to play a match against Rafa Nadal and Richard Krajicek, who have also played a little bit with all the other participants.
All the funds raised will be addressed to the projects belonging to both foundations. Invest for children works in integrating people with intellectual disabilities in workplaces, based on Employment with Support; as for Rafa Nadal Foundation, it will enhance the "Integration and Sport Program", together with Aldeas Infantiles SOS.
This project, which has just been implemented, will strengthen the social and family environment of children and teenagers through education and sport. Currently the program is going on in Sant Adrià del Besòs (Barcelona) and Granada. Yesterday, Nadal was able to see the work carried out by the trainers at Aldeas Infantiles SOS Sant Adrià as he visited the 30 children who benefit from the project. The Project is expected to be implemented in the other centres belonging to the NGO in Spain, helping this way more than 250 children.
Both foundations have also highlighted the importance of sponsoring companies in this solidarity initiative to show their social commitment with solidarity projects. The main sponsors of the event have been: Richard Mille, MAPFRE, KIA and United Postcode Lotteries, which offered a broad support. IESE Business School, Banesto, Babolat, Investindustrial, Indcresa, Nike, Inaer, Lottusse, Emporio Armani and Port Aventura have also contributed.
