Over the past three years, hundreds of vulnerable children have played new sports; have learned new values and have adopted healthy habits thanks to the Integration and Sport programme, promoted by the Rafa Nadal Foundation and SOS Chrildren’s Villages. This programme has overcome its goals successfully, supporting children's social and emotional development, school performance, and general health and social well-being. The satisfaction is not just for children, families and educators, but also for the social agents and the social environment that have seen how neighbourhoods have improved over this period.
In 2011, The Rafa Nadal Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages created the Integration and Sport project with the specific purpose of transforming the sport into a vehicle for integration. The results of this initiative have been included in this first report with the participants’ testimonies: children, families, educators and social agents from the neighbourhoods of Granada, Zaragoza and Barcelona where the program is being developed.
