The Special Olympics Games Reus 2016 took place during the weekend of 23-27 November. A total of 800 athletes with intellectual disabilities from all over Europe took part in the important event.

Amongst the participants, who travelled from 8 different countries, there was an outstanding presence of 80 youngsters from the ‘More than Tennis’ project, a collaboration between the Rafa Nadal Foundation and Special Olympics. The program, which has been ongoing since 2010, aims to promote tennis for young people with intellectual disabilities, whilst also fostering social integration and personal development.

The Games included six different sports: swimming, basketball (boys’, girls’ and unified), tennis, padel, rhythmic gymnastics and motor activities, a sports discipline exclusive to the Special Olympics.
