Last Monday, March 27, we celebrated the first edition of the Rafa Nadal Foundation Awards at Es Baluard, Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma, with the presence of Rafael Nadal, founding patron of the Rafa Nadal Foundation, Gabriela Ramos, Deputy General Director of Sciences Social and Human Rights of Unesco and José María Álvarez-Pallete, President of Telefónica.
This new initiative of the foundation has been simmering for many years and has been made possible thanks to the support of Telefónica, which has become the main ally of these awards.
The Rafa Nadal Foundation Awards were born with the aim of supporting non-profit entities to promote their projects and recognize the winners of the 5 categories who also take home a prize of €15,000
Development cooperation: Fundación Kirira
The project gives access to education to girls and adolescents at risk of suffering female genital mutilation, through the construction of a classroom, equipped with solar energy at the Nkaraku Primary School (Kenya), to facilitate a free, safe and secure future. away from violence, thus contributing to the realization of the educational campaign against the different types of violence based on gender.
Sport: Casal dels Infants
The “Impulse Project” is a social promotion program for girls aged 12 to 16 in the municipality of Salt (Girona). Sport is used as the backbone to improve physical, mental and emotional health, from a gender perspective. It is based on sports practice as the transforming axis of their personal, family and community reality.
Education: Asociación El Arca
This is an accompaniment experience at the service of the right to education focused on supporting educational transitions in contexts of high vulnerability as a strategy to improve the school success of minors. It responds to the need to intervene and support at key moments in the educational process, collaborating with the formal educational system.
Social Innovation: Mamás en Acción
Accompaniment for boys and girls who do not have parents or cannot live with them when they are sick and alone in the hospital, doing the same as we would do with our children. It is an initiative in which love is given, monsters are caught, stories are told, bottles are given and days and nights are spent at the foot of hospital beds. Objective: #NiUnNiñoSolo
Health and Well-being: Fundación Lo Que De Verdad Importa
The “Your Story Really Matters” initiative is a tribute to our elders that turns young people into witnesses of the past, allowing them to learn and enrich themselves from those who know the most about life. Each volunteer has the mission of accompanying and listening to an older person, breaking down the elements of their life story and making the publication of their biography a reality.
The ceremony was conducted by Susana Guasch, presenter of the Vamos de Movistar+ channel, and we were lucky to have the performance of Jorge Bedoya, a pianist from Madrid who dazzled everyone present with his original performance.
It has been a magical night, surrounded by friends, partners and allies of the foundation in an emotional, fun and exciting event.
THANK YOU to all the people who have made this new project possible, the Rafa Nadal Foundation team is committed to continue working to organize many more editions.
