Accessible Coaching Training alongside Nike in Barcelona

Yesterday, a networking and training session on accessible coaching took place in Barcelona, organized by Nike, with the participation of coaches from the Play All project and sports technicians from the Rafa Nadal Foundation Centers in Madrid and Valencia.

A space to share and keep growing

The day began with a networking session between the different organizations partnered with Nike, designed as a space to connect, share experiences, and create synergies.

In the afternoon, the training session was held at CEM Mar Bella, especially aimed at educators who are already coaching children and who wish to deepen their knowledge in Disability Coaching. The training was delivered by the London-based organization Disability Sports Coach.

Eight professionals from our projects attended:

• 6 professionals from the Play All project
• 1 professional from the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Madrid
• 1 professional from the Rafa Nadal Foundation Center in Valencia

Nike x Disability Sports Coach: Accessible Coaching Programme

The workshop is part of the Accessible Coaching Programme led by Nike and Disability Sports Coach, an initiative designed to support coaches in delivering inclusive sessions that integrate children with disabilities.

The training combined both theoretical and practical components, offering concrete and immediately applicable tools.

Theoretical part: awareness and adaptation

During the first part of the workshop, participants worked on key aspects such as:

• Understanding different types of disabilities.
• Using inclusive language.
• Communicating effectively with people with different types of disabilities.
• Understanding different learning styles and how to adapt coaching sessions accordingly.
• Introduction to the theory of adapting coaching.

Practical part: learning by doing

In the practical session, professionals were able to:

• Apply inclusive strategies through group tasks and activities.
• Experience dynamics focused on adapting sports sessions.
• Test inclusive sports equipment.

In addition, the programme includes a full learning follow-up: prior registration on the DSC online portal, a pre-course survey, tasks and knowledge assessment during the course, a final feedback form, and a follow-up survey one month later to evaluate how the learning has been implemented in daily practice.

Committed to sport for all

At the Rafa Nadal Foundation, we continue to invest in the continuous training of our teams as an essential part of our commitment to inclusion.

Opportunities like this allow us to keep moving towards an increasingly accessible sports model, where all children, regardless of their abilities, can enjoy sport as a tool for personal and social development.

We continue working to ensure that sport truly is for everyone.
